More Information
Ans Budien was the son of Klawe & Trine of Baž Kauliņu farm in Zalenieki. That makes him a brother to Anne and Trine (wives of Geddert Rozentals/Rozenbergs) and an uncle to Dāvis Rozenvalds/Rozenbergs.
Ans, and his brother Kristaps, took the surname ‘Buddin/Budien’ sometime between 1826 and 1842.
His older sisters were Lawize (Gulbis) and Grieta (Vigants).
Ans was born in the year 1808 and was baptized in Zalenieku Lutheran Church. He is also listed in 1811 Revision List (which only shows males). The family is shown at the top of the farm list since they were the managers.
- Clave/Klawe, manager, 48 years old
- Kristop, his son, 8 years old
- Ans, his son, 1 1/2 years old
- Janne, 6 months old
Ans is also listed in the 1826 Revision List for Baž Kauliņu farm. It says he was living there with his family back in 1816 and is still living there in 1826 at the age of 15. His father, Klawe, as recently passed away and Ans’s sister, Lawize, and her husband Indriks are now the managers. His sisters Trine and Anne are also living there as well as his widowed mother, Trine.
Ans married for the first time in November 1836 in Zalenieku Lutheran Church. He married Darte Strasdin. In Darte’s death record from 1855 it says she had 2 daughters. I believe they were Lawize (born around 1839) and Greete (born around 1843). But I have been unable to locate baptism records for either of them.
In an 1855 Civil Farm Register Ans and Darte are living on Puhzen farm.
Not long after this farm census was taken Darte Buddin passed away at the age of 45 while living at Puhzen farm.
The following year, Ans marries again to a woman named Lihse Lihbert. There is no evidence of any children from this marriage and Lihse would have been 45 years old so probably no children were born to them.
In the 1857 Revision List for Daukšas farm Ans is living there with his new wife Lihse. Other family members living here at this time are Ans’s elder sister, Grieta Vigants, as well as Ans’s nephew Janne Gulbis (son of Ans’s elder sister Lavize Gulbis). The manager of Daukšas farm in 1857 is Dāvis Rozenwalds who is Ans’s nephew (his sister Anne’s son).
Also in the 1857 Revision List living at Leel Leppel farm in Zalenieku is Greete Buddin, age 14. This must be Ans’s daughter.
After 1857 I cannot trace this family. I do not know when Ans or his life Lihse die and I do not know the fate of his 2 daughters.
