More Information
Kristaps Budien was the eldest son of Klawe & Trine of Baž Kauliņu farm in Zalenieki. That makes him a brother to Anne and Trine (wives of Geddert Rozentals/Rozenbergs) and an uncle to Dāvis Rozenvalds/Rozenbergs.
Kristaps, and his brother Ans, took the surname ‘Buddin/Budien’ sometime between 1826 and 1842.
Kristaps’s 2 elder sisters were Lavize (Gulbis) and Grieta (Vigants).
Kristaps was born in the year 1800 and was baptized in Zalenieku Lutheran Church. He is also listed in 1811 Revision List (which only shows males). The family is shown at the top of the farm list since they were the managers.
- Clave/Klawe, manager, 48 years old
- Kristop, his son, 8 years old
- Ans, his son, 1 1/2 years old
- Janne, 6 months old
I have not found a marriage record, but Kristaps must have married his first wife, Trine, between 1822 and 1825. In 1824 a child is born to them, Greete, baptized at Zalenieku Lutheran Church.
In 1826 there is another Farm Revision List. It shows that Kristaps and his wife, Trine, and their baby, Greete, are now living at a different farm to his parents. There were 2 separate Baž Kauliņu farms down the road from each other. In the records at this time they are listed as #4 and #5. #4 is the one where Klawe & Trine are the managers and the rest of the family lives. In 1826 Kristaps has moved to #5.
At some point after 1826, Kristaps’s wife, Trine dies. Although I have not found this death record. In 1842, I have found someone’s baptism record who lists ‘Greete Buddin’ as a godparent. This indicates that Kristaps and Trine’s daughter, Greete, is still alive at this time and that the family has taken the surname ‘Buddin’.
In October 1843, Kristaps marries again. He marries Karline Sehmals in Doblen Lutheran Church.
The new couple’s first child is named Karline (like her mother). I have not found a baptism record for this child. But I have her death record from 1846 in Zalenieku Lutheran Church. She was only 1 week old so she may not have been baptized yet.
Two more children are born to Kristaps and Karline. Trine in 1849 and Kristap in 1852. Both of these children are baptized in Doblen Lutheran Church.
In the Revision List for 1857, Kristap Buddien is back living at Baž Kauliņu farm where he was born. He is here with his wife, Karliene, and their two children, Kristop and Trine. It states that in back in 1850 the family were living at Sahwain farm. Other family members living at Baž Kauliņu farm in 1857 are Kristaps’s sister, Lavize Gulbis. And Lavize’s son, Ans Gulbis (who is the manager at this time) and his wife and children.
I have not found a death record for Kristaps Budien. His wife, Karline died in 1872 at Uhdre Farm in Zalenieku. She is listed as being a widow. So we can be sure that Kristaps Budien died between 1857 and 1872. The records for 1859 to 1861 are not available online and to my knowledge are not in good condition and may not be complete. But perhaps he died in those years which is why I cannot find his death record.
I do not know the fate of Kristaps and Karline’s daughter, Trine (born in 1849). But I know that their son, Kristap, married Lawize Bredermann in 1877 at Zalenieku Lutheran Church and they had least 1 child, Dohre, in 1878. They are living at Lepit farm in Jekabnieku in 1878 when Dohre is born.
